The sperm is then frozen in liquid nitrogen tanks at -196 oC (-321 oF). On the average, each specimen will fill one to four vials. The number of vials will be directly related to the ejaculate volume and will vary with patients and with ejaculates. A cryoprotectant is then added to protect the sperm during the freezing process, and the specimen is stored in 1ml cryovials. When your specimen is received in our lab, a complete semen analysis with morphology is performed to determine its fertility potential (count and motility analysis is performed on all subsequent samples).
